Brief article about ‘War, Inc.’

WAR PARTY: John Cusack isn’t waving the white flag yet when it comes to the Iraq war. While audiences have snubbed In the Valley of Elah, Rendition and The Kingdom, Cusack has not only done the dour Grace is Gone to be released in December, but the satirical War Inc. due out in 2008.
It’s a black-as-crude comedy — a la Grosse Pointe Blank — about the private mercenary machine gone amok in the Middle East.
“It’s as unrestrained as Grace is Gone is restrained,” he says. “It’s about war profiteers, who are the absolute opposite of military families who are sacrificing themselves.”
While War Inc., which co-stars Marisa Tomei and Hilary Duff, isn’t a sequel to 1996’s Grosse Pointe Blank, Cusack acknowledges the two share the same sour comic bearing.
“Sometimes absurdist stuff is the way to play with the darker truths. I love black comedies, too. It’s very hard to get these made, but it was fun … It’s a funny movie, but it’s also meant to be provocative.”
