Article about ‘Beyond Wiseguys’
By Lisa | January 15, 2008
Found an article that gives a lot of information about Beyond Wiseguys: Italian Americans and the Movies. Not much is said about Marisa but the article is very informative about the short documentary. According to the article, it’s scheduled to air on PBS this Spring. Link to the full article is below.
As for the interview subjects, “A lot of them, I called cold,” Braun says. “Marisa Tomei kept putting me off and I just kept calling. And the day I finally picked her up for the interview, she said, ‘I just figured you were never going to give up.’”
Once these subjects sat down, both Braun and Fischler said they were gratified by their candor. Palminteri, for instance, recalls being shunned by a realtor as soon as she found out the actor was Italian. Valenti, who died last year, spoke about growing up Italian in Houston. Tomei confesses she had to struggle to avoid being typecast as the gum-popping floozy she played in her Oscar-winning performance in My Cousin Vinny.
